A Concise History of Zumba in Anaheim, California:

While Zumba persists to boom across Orange County, the city of Anaheim has emerged as a particularly passionate bastion for the dance-inspired workout.

Zumba was created in the 1990s by Colombian dancer Alberto "Beto" Perez. After bringing his innovative fusion of aerobics and salsa dancing to the United States in the early 2000s, Zumba quickly expanded across the country.

By 2007, there were just a handful of authorized Zumba teachers in Orange County proposing a few weekend classes. Anaheim resident Maria Lopez got certified that year and started teaching Zumba at local community centers. Along with fellow instructors like Luis Torres, they helped popularize Zumba through local church groups and youth programs.

Within a few years, Maria and Luis were teaching 10-15 packed classes per week each to meet demand. Other dancers also became certified instructors. Eventually Anaheim had the largest concentration of Zumba classes in Orange County, offered daily across the city.

Today, Zumba is a staple activity at gyms and studios across Anaheim, California. The city is home to several Zumba-only facilities and hosts frequent Zumba conferences, competitions, and training events. 15 years since its arrival, Zumba remains one of Anaheim's most popular and enduring fitness trends.

Teo Reyes is honored to reintroduce Zumba to Anaheim residents with their free introductory classes. Led by the talented Teo Reyes, the sessions aim to inspire the next generation of Zumba lovers. As Beto Perez says, "Forget the workout, just lose yourself in the music!"
